Yesterday (February 14 2023) a bomb has exploded. Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, the Royal Scion and the head of Tipra Motha suddenly declared that he was taking Political Sannyas and he would not be seen in the political arena anymore.
This sudden declaration is a veritable bolt from the blue for the soldiers of the Tipra Motha and must have a disastrous effect on them with widespread ramifications, discontentment, disillusion, and indecisiveness.
We have the highest respect for our Maharaja. Having said so, it must also be said that he suffers from the sudden outburst of emotion and sentiment. A leader may evoke emotion and sentiment amongst his followers, but he personally remains detached, He plays with the emotion of the audience, The secret of leadership is simple: Do what you believe in. Paint a picture of the future. Go there. People will follow. But he should remain nonchalant.
A leader is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the nimblest go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind.
But Pradyot has failed to become Shepherd. He is an emotion-driven persona, sorry to say, who had stoked the aspirations of the indigenous people and now let them down.
His idea of Greater Tipra Land is a disastrous and utopian one. But he infused his comrade in arms with this impossible dream. Now, he has distanced himself from the battlefield. What kind of a leader he is.
Yesterday I was listening to one of his interviews with India Today, and he himself appeared disgruntled. He was repeatedly referring that his target is only one seat, and it was obvious that his target is Shri Jishnu Debbarman, another member of the distant royal family- maybe the effect of internecine family rivalry, I am not sure though. Jishnu is a suave politician and blue blood runs through his vein too.
Pradyot was constantly mentioning that he is seriously ill and is dying. A leader never divulges his physical ailment- it has a demoralising effect on his followers. But Pradyot decided to traverse in the opposite direction. A question naturally arises, if he is physically ill, why is he on the political battlefield and why has he stoked the aspiration of the Tribal people?
His disastrous decision of quitting the battlefield and that too without consulting any of his comrades in arms has opened the field wide open for the CPI(M) and the BJP. According to me, I am a political novice though, this decision will amply benefit BJP and no others way around.
A different ball game has started, and the battle royal has become interesting. Now the field is open for all the political parties and the Assembly appears not to be going a hung assembly as I observed earlier.
Let there be dance Democracy!
