Aviation Minister informs Lok Sabha IndiGo disruption rapidly stabilising

New Delhi, Dec 09, 2025 : Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu today said the disruption caused by IndiGo’s recent operational failures is now rapidly stabilising and reiterated that the government is fully determined to build a robust airline system.

Addressing the Lok Sabha on the ongoing IndiGo crisis, the Minister stated that IndiGo is being held fully accountable. He further added that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued notices to the airline, and based on its report, strict and appropriate action will be taken. He added that no airline, however large, will be permitted to cause such hardship to passengers through planning failures and non-compliance.

Mr Naidu added that the government will remain fully vigilant until normalcy is restored. The Minister said passengers’ convenience and dignity are being protected, and long-term measures are underway to make India’s aviation sector more passenger-centric.

Mr Naidu also emphasised that passenger safety is non-negotiable and attributed the disruption to internal rostering issues. He informed the House that over 750 crore rupees have already been refunded, and re-bookings have been completed without extra charges. While speaking in the House, Opposition parties demanded a discussion on the issue, and later they staged a walkout from the House.

Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that safety in civil aviation is completely non-negotiable and India remains firmly committed to the highest global standards of safety.

Noting that safety in civil aviation is completely non-negotiable, Mr Naidu said, Revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL), scientifically designed to prevent pilot fatigue, are being implemented. He said these reforms are essentially for passenger safety, and DGCA adopted a phased implementation plan in consultation with all the stakeholders. He said IndiGo had clearly assured full compliance with these norms and also confirmed its preparedness to undertake its winter schedule.

The Minister informed that despite these assurances, it was observed that internal rostering disruptions led to large-scale cancellations, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers.

The minister said the airline has been directed to restructure its operations, reserve crew capacity, improve passenger handling, and restore normal schedules without any oversight.
