A mysterious incident involving a security personnel attached to Tripura’s Food and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has triggered concern in Agartala after he was found in a bleeding condition late Wednesday night. The circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear, and police have so far not disclosed whether any assault or other offence was involved.

The injured person has been identified as Uttam Debnath, alias Abhi Debnath, who is reportedly working as a security guard/bodyguard attached to the Food and Transport Minister.

According to local sources, Debnath was found lying in an injured and bleeding condition in the NCC Police Station area, reportedly near the locality of the Chanmari near Nandannagar. Local residents noticed him and informed the NCC Police Station as well as the Fire and Emergency Services.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel subsequently reached the spot and rescued Debnath in an injured condition before taking him to AGMC and GBP Hospital for medical treatment. Police personnel from the NCC Police Station also reached the location and initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

During the preliminary investigation, police came to know the identity of the injured man and his association with the Minister’s security detail.

Sources also said that two other bodyguard of the minister, reportedly identified as Mustak and Mithun, had allegedly left the MLA resident on motorcycles around the same time. Police are examining whether there was any connection between the movements of these two persons and the incident involving Debnath. However, no such connection has been established so far, and their possible involvement remains a matter for investigation.

The incident has raised several questions, particularly because Debnath reportedly had a day off on Wednesday. Investigators are looking into why he was in the particular area late at night, what happened immediately before he sustained the injuries, and whether anyone else was present at the scene.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury reportedly visited GBP Hospital after receiving information about the incident and enquired about Debnath’s medical condition. He also spoke with members of the injured man’s family and sought information regarding the circumstances of the incident.

At present, it has not been confirmed whether the bleeding episode was connected to any dispute involving negotiations, commissions, monitoring-related matters or any other issue. There is also no official confirmation that Debnath was assaulted. Police have not made any arrest so far, while the injured security personnel has reportedly not made any disclosure that could clarify exactly what happened.

The police investigation is continuing, including efforts to establish Debnath’s movements before he was found injured and to determine whether the two other individuals mentioned during the preliminary inquiry had any connection with the incident.

The late-night recovery of a bleeding security personnel attached to a senior state minister has meanwhile created considerable concern in the locality.
