Tripura University will observe its foundation day on October 2 with a series of programmes highlighting academic development, research, environmental responsibility and institutional collaboration, as the Central University seeks to strengthen its engagement with educational institutions and industry.
Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha has consented to attend the foundation day programme as the chief guest, while University Chancellor Ahmed Javed is scheduled to preside over the event.
The university, established on October 2, 1987, has planned a range of activities under the initiative of Vice-Chancellor Professor Debabrata Das. The celebrations are expected to extend beyond the formal foundation day ceremony, with emphasis on social responsibility and academic partnerships.
The main programme will begin with the hoisting of the national flag. Tree plantation and cleanliness drives have also been planned, along with a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
Focus on institutional collaboration
As part of the celebrations, Tripura University is expected to sign memoranda of understanding with several educational and professional institutions. The proposed agreements are intended to strengthen cooperation in education and research, while expanding opportunities for academic exchange and institutional engagement.
The President of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and the Vice-Chancellors of Central University of Haryana, Assam University (Central) and Devi Ahilya University, Bhopal, are expected to attend the programme.
Bandhan Group Chairman Chandra Shekhar Ghosh will also be present to mark the beginning of an industry–academia collaboration with the university. The proposed partnership is expected to provide a platform for closer engagement between the university and the corporate sector.
The participation of senior representatives from academic and professional institutions is expected to provide an opportunity to explore areas of cooperation, particularly in research, education and knowledge exchange.
Recognition of contributions
Teachers and other contributors to the university are scheduled to be felicitated during the celebrations. The recognition is intended to acknowledge their contributions to the institution's academic and research activities.
A cultural programme will also be organised, with students, teachers, researchers and non-teaching employees expected to participate. The programme is intended to bring together different sections of the university community and reflect its institutional and cultural life.
The foundation day celebrations have been planned around themes including academic standards, research, innovation, environmental awareness and engagement with society. The university administration has sought to integrate these priorities into the activities marking the occasion.
Looking ahead
The four-decade milestone provides an opportunity for the university to reflect on its institutional journey and consider its priorities for the coming years. Alongside academic and research initiatives, the focus on environmental responsibility, cleanliness and partnerships is expected to give the celebrations a wider social dimension.
The October 2 programme will bring together members of the university community, representatives of educational institutions, professional organisations and industry as Tripura University seeks to deepen academic cooperation and strengthen its institutional outreach.
