Official holiday on September 28 in areas under VC elections, notification issued

Tripura government has declared an official holiday in areas bound for Village Committee elections in ADC on September 28. This will be a paid holiday in all government offices unconnected with the election and all other educational institutions will also remain closed .

An official notification in this regard was issued on September 17 in accordance with the provisions contained in Section 135-b (1) of the Representation of Peoples Act-1951. The notification has clarified that on the day of September 28 all government offices, magistrate courts, financial institutions and all educational institutions will remain closed in the ADC areas where elections to the 587 Village Committees will he held. The employees in private institutions like business establishments will also have to be given paid leave by the owners. The voters in the Village Committees currently living outside will also be covered by the notification on official holiday.

Sources in the state election commission said that the notification has been issued as a routine matter to create conducive conditions for the elections to the Village Committees on September 28. Apart from this, all other measures to ensure a smooth and peaceful election to the Village Committtees are also being taken , sources in the SEC office added.
