Even with a death sentence passed by a ‘Kangaroo’ court manifested in the so-called International Crime Tribunal (ICT) hanging over her head the former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina is determined to return to her native country on December 14, as is being speculated by her dedicated supporters . Sources from Bangladesh said that the workers and cadres of banned Awami League are holding secret meetings and conclaves to prepare for according a rousing reception to their ousted leader upon her arrival in the country on December 14 even though the date is not yet final.

Yesterday , the Awami League workers and supporters came out of their hiding and tried to organize a lockdown in Dhaka and other major cities of the country to protest the alleged excesses being committed by ruling BNP and fundamentalist Jamat-e-Islami supporters and leaders across the country. The Awami League also made an issue out of the continuous persecution of minorities all over the country. “It is well known that we now can not operate freely because of the illegal ban put on our party by the illegitimate interim government but still yesterday our lockdown programme evoked a good response and as days go by the people will come out more and more strongly in favour of the Awami League as they realize how the country is being destroyed by the ruling BNP and the Jamat-e-Islami.

Sources said that former prime minister Sheikh Hasina who had been forcibly ousted from power on August 5 2024 by a US-sponsored uprising held a meeting yesterday in her Delhi safe-house of the leading figures of her party. In the meeting all pertinent issues including threats to her life as well as to those of the ousted leaders of her party were discussed threadbare. Sheikh Hasina proclaimed her intention in the meeting to take on the political challenge as well as threat to her life head-on by returning to Bangladesh and standing by the persecuted people . The other leaders of Awami League who had to flee Bangladesh in August 2024 for life also agreed to the proposal put up by the supreme leader, Sheikh Hasina. The tentative date of December 14 for the possible return was discussed though no final decision about the timing and date of return was not taken yesterday. But it was finally and firmly decided that Hasina and her leading colleagues will all return to Bangladesh latest by the end of December .
