CPI(M) Tripura State Committee Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has accused the Tipra Motha of functioning as a protective shield for the BJP in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), and appealed to voters not to be misled by the party during the forthcoming Village Committee elections.

Addressing public meetings at Kirichandra Para in Purba Sabroom and at Chowmuhani Bazar in Betaga ADC village areas on Sunday, Chaudhury alleged that the Tipra Motha was being used to safeguard the BJP’s political interests in the tribal areas.

According to the report, Chaudhury said the CPI(M) had decided to contest the ADC Village Committee elections with the objective of strengthening democratic forces in the autonomous council areas. He urged voters to exercise their franchise carefully and not to get trapped by political slogans.

The CPI(M) leader also referred to the political developments surrounding the ADC and the relationship between the BJP and Tipra Motha. He claimed that the BJP had earlier sought to establish its dominance in the ADC administration and that Tipra Motha was now acting as a political shield for the ruling party.

Chaudhury reportedly argued that if the BJP could not defeat Tipra Motha electorally, the BJP’s position in the ADC areas would remain difficult to establish directly. He further referred to the 2023 Assembly elections, alleging that the BJP’s defeat in the tribal areas was linked to the distribution of votes and the presence of Tipra Motha.

He questioned the political strategy of contesting the Village Committee elections and alleged that the BJP had attempted to influence the functioning of the ADC administration through political arrangements. Chaudhury also appealed to voters to distinguish between political slogans and the actual record of political parties.

At the meetings, local CPI(M) leaders and party workers were also present.
