The National Cadet Corps (NCC) plays an important role in shaping students into responsible citizens, Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Debabrata Das said on Sunday.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the valedictory ceremony of a 15-day NCC camp at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala, Prof. Das said students were increasingly recognising the importance of NCC training and voluntarily enrolling in its programmes.
“The NCC shows students the path towards becoming good citizens. Students have now realised its importance, and this is also reflected in their academic performance,” Prof. Das said.
He emphasised the role of universities and colleges in encouraging students to participate in NCC training and supporting their overall development.
The Vice-Chancellor attended the valedictory ceremony as the chief guest. The event was also attended by Major General Anurag Vij, Additional Director General of the NCC and Director of the NCC Directorate, North Eastern Region, and Lieutenant Colonel Rohan Gupta, Commanding Officer of the 15th Battalion, NCC.
Prof. Das was felicitated during the programme in recognition of his presence and participation in the event.
The 15-day NCC camp was organised to provide cadets with structured training and opportunities to develop discipline, leadership and a sense of civic responsibility. The programme brought together NCC personnel and cadets as part of the organisation’s efforts to promote character-building and national service among young people.
Prof. Das’s remarks highlighted the growing role of educational institutions in facilitating NCC participation and encouraging students to pursue activities beyond conventional academic learning.
The valedictory ceremony marked the conclusion of the 15-day camp at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala.
