In a heart rending incident a ten year student of class IV named Amena Khatun was bitten by a poisonous snake while untying a cow from their domestic cow-shed on Friday evening and died while being taken to Melaghar hospital. Amena’s family lives in the Borkhola area under the Monaipathar ADC village in Jatrapur police station area under Sonamura subdivision. Sources from Sonamura said that on Friday evening Amena’s mother had told her to untie the cows in their family cowshed but as soon as she stepped into the shed she was bitten by a venomous snake which was seen crawling away. Amena cried out in pain and fear and was rushed by family members to the Kathalia community health centre but after first aid there, the doctor on duty told the family members to take her to Melaghar hospital in view of her critical condition .
Amena’s parents and relatives hired a vehicle and left for Melaghar but Amena breathed her last on the way and declared ‘dead on arrival’-that is, she had died before being taken to hospital. The parents and relatives of Amena broke down in loud wailing over the death of their dear daughter and as her body was taken back home for burial the entire Borkhola village stood in silent tears as she was dear to all for her sweet talk and behavior.
