The Left-Congress-supported panel has secured an uncontested victory in the election to the Unakoti District Bar Association, after the BJP’s legal cell failed to field candidates for the election.
The development has come as a significant setback for the BJP’s legal organisation in the district, with the entire election process reportedly concluding without a contest for the key posts.
According to the report, the election was held after the expiry of the tenure of the previous committee. Although the BJP’s legal cell had been attempting to strengthen its organisational presence among lawyers in the district, it could not submit candidates for the Unakoti District Bar Association election.
Against this backdrop, the failure of the BJP legal cell to field candidates in the Unakoti district bar election has attracted attention within legal and political circles. The Left-Congress-supported panel submitted a joint set of nominations for the election. After scrutiny and withdrawal of nominations, no rival candidate remained for the posts, resulting in the panel being declared elected unopposed.
The elected panel reportedly includes Bijan Kumar Sinha as president, Swapna Kumar Das as vice-president, and Nilanjan Das as secretary, along with other office-bearers.
