AIKS condemn the destruction of fish and fishlets in ponds owned by CPI (M) supporters by poisoning

Political rivalry and vengeance have taken a bizarre turn in Tripura with supporters of one party destroying rubber gardens, croplands and fisheries and ponds owned by the other party’s supporters. Even though this reeks of a civil war , the bizarre phenomenon has been continuing in different parts of Tripura. This has been the case over the past many years.

But now with the opposition CPI (M) steadily gaining lost ground the rival BJP supporters seem to have become desperate to contain them by whatever means possible. This is borne out by the poisoning to death of large number of fishes in ponds owned by CPI (M) supporters in different areas of Agartala . The CPI (M) supporters who have been the loser all attended the massive open rally organized by the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) held in the Swami Vivekananda ground.

A statement issued by the AIKS, Tripura said that on August 21 the pondful of fishes and fishlets owned by CPI (M) supporter Minati Majumder in Aralia had been poisoned to death . This was followed by the destruction of all the fishes and fishlets in the pond owned by CPI (M) supporter Parameshwar Das in Jogendra Nagar Kata Sheola area . The last incident took place in the AD Nagar Ramthakur Pally on September 1 when the pond full of fishes and fishlets owned by CPI (M) supporter Alak Roy was poisoned to death by suspected BJP miscreants.

The leaders of AIKS Dr Biju Krishnan, vice president Hannan Mollah, AIKS (Tripura) secretary Ratan Das and leader of the opposition Jitendra Chowdhury today visited all the three affected houses and pond owners and spoke to them. The leader of the opposition Jiten Chowdhruy strongly condemned the inhuman acts like destruction of properties of people. “These three persons have lost at least Rs 15 lakhs through destruction of their fishes and fishlets in ponds ; during the past eight years a barbaric force has been in power in Tripura that has been destroying the entire culture and social fabric of Tripura . How can these people justify the destruction of peoples assets and capitals ; this dark era of history in Tripura will end soon and ,having realized this, they are now acting against common people” said Jiten.
