Four police personnel including OC , Bishalgarh closed by SP (Sepahijala) for gold theft

The SP (Sepahijala) today ‘closed’ from duty four personnel of Bishalgarh police station including the officer in charge (OC) Bijay Das , following a crime branch inquiry ordered against them for theft of 3 kgs of gold by the high court . The three other police personnel are second officer of Bishalgarh police station Supratim Deb, Sub-inspector Banijay Reang and constable Bahar Mia.

Giving details of the case, sources in the court said that on February 21 this year Billal Mia , a resident of Melaghar area under Sonamura subdivision, and three of his male relatives had been coming to Agartala on a hired vehicle with about three kgs of gold which they intended to sell to bear the cost of a major surgery of one of their family members in a private nursing home. Acting on a tip-off a police team from Bishalgarh police station including OC Bijay Das and three of his companions , SI Banijay Reang, second officer Supratim Deb and constable Bahar Mia gave the hired vehicle a hot chase suspecting drug was being carried by Billal Mia and others. The hired vehicle was stopped in Badharghat area near Ramthkur college.

The police team took the vehicle to Bishalgarh police station, despite protests and appeals of Billal Mia and his relatives and parked the vehicle in an area within the police station compound where there was no CCTV surveillance. While checking the vehicle the police team found the 3 kgs of gold and, defying all explanations and pleas of Billal Mia, the police team grabbed the whole quantity of gold . Heart-broken by police perfidy , Billal Mia and his relatives tried to register a complaint against the gold theft with Bishalgarh and Sonamura police station but failed .

Finally Billal and his relatives filed a written complaint with the SP (Sepahijala) office on February 28 but there was no remedial action and then they filed a writ petition in the high court of Tripura through advocate Sankar Lodh . Acting upon the writ petition the high court on August 18 passed an order directing the crime branch to go into the case. Even then the police authority took no action against the Bishalgarh police team but finally, having no other alternative, the SP (Sepahijala) Bijay Debbarma closed from duty the four police personnel of Bishalgarh police station today . This has created a stir among people , though earlier Paritosh Das , currently OC of NCC police station, had snatched away Rs 16 lakhs from a man in Sonamura where he was OC then in the course of so-called search operation. The man had got the money by selling land and he also later filed a case with the high court which is still undecided ,even though Paritosh Das continues in his lucrative office without any action taken by high-ups in the police hierarchy.
