Surrendered militants threaten 72 hour Tripura bandh from tomorrow unless demands met

The surrendered militants of now-defunct ATTF and NLFT groups have threatened to call a seventy two hour Tripura ‘bandh’ from tomorrow unless their demands are met by the state government immediately. They held an interactive session with the media in the Agartala Press Club today and spoke to journalists representing various media outlets.

Speaking on behalf of the surrendered militants the president of the outfit Jibon Jay Reang said that the state government has been dragging its feet over their demands for a long time without taking any positive action . “We have held discussion with senior officials and even the minister for tribal welfare Bikash Debbarma but despite our repeated pleas and their assurances there has so far been no progress in government action to fulfill our demands; hence we have decided to go for a major agitational progamme” said Jibon Jay Reang.

He added that departmental ministers have no power to take important decisions with regard to our demands ; it is the chief minister Dr Manik Saha who can take the real decisions . “We therefore appeal to him to intervene in the matter effectively and take appropriate decisions” said Jibon Jay Reang. Reiterating their decision to go for seventy two hours ‘Tripura bandh’ from September 4, that is tomorrow Jibon Jay said that the bandh called for tomorrow will be followed up by blockade programmes all over the state and the state government will be responsible for any untoward incident that may happen during the ‘bandh’ or during the blockade programme after this. No official response to the ‘bandh’ call and the proposed subsequent blockade programme was available.
