Health Camp and ESI Awareness Programme Held at NEEPCO for Contractual and Low-Paid Workers

A health camp and awareness programme on the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme was organised at NEEPCO, Ramchandra Nagar, through a joint initiative of the Tripura Labour Department and the ESI Corporation’s Shyamali Bazar Branch Office.

The programme, organised particularly for contractual and low-paid workers engaged under various contractors at the NEEPCO power station, aimed to provide health screening facilities and create greater awareness about the benefits and services available under the ESI Scheme.

The programme was attended by Mukul Sharma, Head of Plant, Agartala Based Power Station, along with Binay Bhushan Das, Joint Commissioner, Labour Department; Ajay Kumar, Deputy General Manager; Partha Bhattacharjee, District Labour Officer; Samar Das, ESI Branch Manager; and Insurance Medical Officer Amisha Pal.

During the awareness session, Joint Commissioner Binay Bhushan Das and ESI Branch Manager Samar Das explained in detail the various benefits available to eligible workers under the ESI Scheme. They highlighted the importance of ensuring that eligible contractual workers are brought under the social security framework and are able to access the healthcare and other benefits provided through ESI.

A total of 61 workers underwent health examinations during the camp. The initiative provided the workers with an opportunity to receive preliminary health services while also learning about the medical and social-security benefits available to them through the ESI system.

Speaking on the occasion, Mukul Sharma stressed the importance of expanding ESI services and ensuring that more eligible workers can benefit from the scheme in the coming days. He also assured the organisers of the necessary cooperation from the NEEPCO side for further initiatives aimed at improving healthcare access and social-security coverage among workers.

The participation of workers in the programme was reported to be notably encouraging, reflecting significant interest among contractual and low-paid employees in healthcare services and the benefits available under the ESI Scheme.

The joint initiative is expected to contribute towards strengthening awareness of workers’ social-security rights while encouraging greater access to healthcare and welfare services under the ESI framework.
