Tripura Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal to Represent State at 69th CPA Conference in South Africa

Tripura is set to receive an important opportunity to showcase its parliamentary traditions and democratic experience on the international stage, with Tripura Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal selected to represent the state at the upcoming 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

An important All India Presiding Officers’ CPA Meeting was held yesterday at the Community Hall of Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi from 2 pm to 6 pm under the leadership of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Speakers, Deputy Speakers and other presiding officers from different states, along with concerned officials of the State’s and Central Government, participated in the meeting.

The meeting focused primarily on preparations for the 69th CPA Conference, which is scheduled to be held in Cape Town. Around 125 representatives from India, including representatives from Parliament and different state legislatures, are expected to participate in the international conference.

Among them, Tripura will be represented by Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal, who is scheduled to attend the conference along with his wife. His participation is being viewed as an important opportunity for Tripura to present its parliamentary experience, democratic practices and legislative achievements before an international gathering.

During the meeting in New Delhi, detailed discussions were held on various aspects of the upcoming CPA Conference, including the composition and preparations of the Indian delegation, the conference programme and the proposed study tour. Representatives were also briefed on the guidelines and responsibilities associated with their participation.

The Indian delegation is scheduled to leave for Cape Town on September 11. Apart from participating in the CPA Conference, the delegation will also take part in a scheduled Study Tour aimed at providing exposure to parliamentary institutions and practices. After completing the conference and associated programmes, the Indian delegation is expected to return to India on October 2.
