Bhavans Tripura Vidyamandir Holds Literary Workshop to Encourage Students’ Creative Writing

Bhavans Tripura Vidyamandir organised a one-day literary workshop at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Hall on its Narsingarh campus on Tuesday, highlighting the importance of creative writing and encouraging students to develop their literary talents.

Bhavans has consistently placed emphasis on the overall development of students, and the latest initiative further reflected the institution’s efforts to nurture creativity and independent thinking among young learners. Although Bhavans Tripura Vidyamandir is an English-medium school, a significant number of its students actively write in English, Bengali and Hindi, with teachers encouraging them to pursue their literary interests.

The occasion also marked the publication of the second volume of ‘Chintan’, a compilation featuring creative writings by students of Bhavans Tripura Vidyamandir. The school publishes a new volume every year, bringing together students’ literary contributions in English, Bengali and Hindi.

The workshop was attended by several distinguished academics and educationists. Among the special guests were Dr. Barnali Bhowmik Ghosh, Head of the Department of Bengali at Maharaja Bir Bikram College, and Dr. Sayan Chowdhury, Professor in the Department of English at the same college. Professor Binod Kumar Mishra, Dean, Faculty of Literature, Tripura University, was also present. The programme was attended by Debashish Chakraborty, Chairman of the Agartala Centre of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

Addressing the gathering, the guests praised Bhavans Tripura Vidyamandir for maintaining discipline and achieving overall academic success while simultaneously providing students with opportunities to express themselves through literature. They appreciated the students’ contributions to creative writing and stressed the importance of developing literary and creative abilities alongside conventional academic learning.

School Principal Swapna Som welcomed the guests and participants and expressed appreciation for the initiative. She emphasised the value of continuing such programmes consistently so that students receive regular opportunities to explore their creative potential and strengthen their writing skills.

As part of the annual recognition of student writers, 11 students were presented with the ‘Bhavans Best Writer Award 2026’ for their outstanding performance in creative writing. The awards recognised students who demonstrated particular talent and commitment to literary activities.

Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Agartala Centre, Debashish Chakraborty, in his address underlined the importance of writing as a means of communication, intellectual development and social expression. He highlighted the wider social significance of literature and said that creative activities play an important role in developing students’ imagination, confidence and overall personality.

The invited academics also delivered talks on various aspects of literature and writing during the workshop. An interactive question-and-answer session provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with the speakers, making the programme particularly engaging and informative.

Another significant feature of the event was the publication of five individual Bengali-language books written by students of the school. The publication of individual books by young students was seen as an important milestone in encouraging budding writers to take their literary pursuits more seriously.

The school also felicitated editors of various newspapers and magazines that have regularly published the writings of Bhavans students throughout the year. The recognition acknowledged the role played by these publications in providing young writers with a platform to showcase their work to a wider readership.

The workshop concluded with the national anthem, bringing an end to a programme that combined literary learning, recognition of young writers and the celebration of student creativity.
