Kanchanpur police station OC accused of sexual harassment of mistreatment with woman complainant

In a new twist to the police malfunction in the state, the officer in charge of Kanchanpur police station in north Tripura, Srikanta Rudrapaul has been accused of sexual abuse and other forms of misconduct with a lady who had gone to the police station to file a complaint. The lady has already filed written complaints with the state womens commission, DGP office and SP (north) Abinash Rai seeking punitive action against the OC, Kanchanpur.

Sources said that a thirty five year old lady Soma Debnath, wife of Mahananda Debnath and resident of Barohaldi village under Kanchanpur police station, had gone to the police station yesterday to register a complaint. But when she came face to face with the OC Srikanta Rudrapaul , he wrongly touched her and allegedly made sexually suggestive but indecent comments. After being subjected to sexual harassment and uncouth behavior Soma Debnath left the police station and told a few media persons her experience , describing the behavior of the OC as dangerous for women.

Later she filed written complaints against the OC Srikanta Rudrapaul with the state womens commission , DGP and SP (north) Abinash Rai seeking drastic punitive action against the OC for his indecent and objectionable behavior. She has also urged upon the higher police authority to preserve and protect the CCTV footage within the police station as this will prove her charges. Sources said the neither the OC nor any higher police authority has as yet reacted to the charges made by Soma Debnath.
