Alleged Illegal Sale of Government Khas Land Sparks Political Storm in Tripura's Kamalasagar

A major controversy has erupted in Tripura's Kamalasagar Assembly constituency following allegations of the illegal sale of government khas (public) land worth crores of rupees in Gokulnagar Muslim Para. The issue has triggered widespread public outrage, prompting the Sub-Divisional Administration to initiate an inquiry into the alleged land transactions.

According to local sources, the administration conducted a surprise inspection in the area after reports surfaced that governmentowned khas land had allegedly been sold illegally. The sudden official intervention created considerable tension and excitement among local residents.

The allegations have taken a political turn, with some local residents claiming that the name of Kamalasagar MLA Antara Sarkar Deb has been linked to the alleged land dealing network. They have also named several other individuals, including local political workers and a woman lawyer from Bishalgarh, alleging that they were part of the alleged land transaction syndicate.

Residents further alleged that nearly five kani of government land was illegally sold to buyers, including members of the minority community from outside the locality, at high prices. Some locals also claimed that proceeds from the alleged transactions were shared among certain political functionaries.

Sources said that the Sub-Divisional Administration has issued notices summoning both the alleged sellers and purchasers of the disputed land for questioning as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Local residents alleged that this is not an isolated incident and claimed that similar allegations involving government and disputed land have surfaced against the alleged syndicate in the past. They have demanded a comprehensive investigation into all such cases.

Questions have also been raised by sections of the public over the alleged role of certain officials within the administration. Residents argued that such large-scale encroachment and sale of government land could not have continued without administrative lapses or possible collusion. However, no evidence has been publicly presented to substantiate these claims.

Demanding strict action, local residents called for the identification and prosecution of all those found responsible for any illegal sale of government property. They warned that if decisive legal action is not taken, they would launch a larger public agitation against what they described as a growing land mafia operating in the area.

At the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from MLA Antara Sarkar Deb, the individuals named in the allegations, or the concerned administrative authorities regarding the accusations.
