BJP launches constituency wise survey through private organization for civic and assembly polls

Sensing an erosion of the party’s organizational strength and support base among the electorate, the central BJP has started preparing for the upcoming statewide civic body elections as well as next assembly elections , less than two years away. At least three major election survey outfits have been engaged by the party to conduct surveys and assess the ground situation in all sixty assembly segments across the state. Two of the requisitioned outfits are already engaged in field work while the third outfit will start its work from north Tripura from the end of this week.

Speaking on condition of anonymity two young surveyors from outside the state said that they have been contacting informed and influential people in different areas to assess the public mood and chances of incumbent and alternative candidates for the assembly polls. The civic election survey is being conducted simultaneously . “We have come to the state with a detailed brief that we can not disclose but the basic work is to assess chances of party candidates in different constituencies ; the civic election mood is being assessed simultaneously but our priority is the next assembly election” said a young surveyor from Delhi who is also fluent in Bengali .

Making an interesting disclosure the surveyor and his companion said that they have found most of the BJP supporters and workers here as ‘accidental BJPs’ having little or no knowledge of what BJP’s actual ideological position is and the party’s history and that of political Hindutwa. “Our finding so far is that , except for very few, most of those who are in the forefront of BJP can not distinguish between Congress and BJP on ideological points ; the senior ones joined the BJP bandwagon out of frustration with the Congress while the younger generation have joined the party only for material benefits; we will mention this in our survey report” said the surveyor. Without elaborating on the issue he said that at the moment BJP’s strength stems only from weakness of the opposition, specially the CPI (M).

Regarding the situation in the tribal areas he said that the working teams are yet to gather detailed data on the issue but are convinced by primary interaction in certain pockets that BJP has become considerably weak in the tribal areas . As things stand now , the BJP will be in deep trouble unless they can rope in the ‘Tipra Motha’ in an alliance for the next assembly election and things will be clear from the upcoming elections to the Village Committees . “This is a dangerous signal for the party and we will refer to this in our report” ,the surveyor said . Regarding the upcoming civic election he did not make any comment on the ground that the situation is still evolving and , being the ruling party the BJP has an edge for the civic election that will be conducted by the state election commission.
