Tripura CM’s goodwill gesture, sends packets of pineapple for Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahaman

As part of a goodwill gesture the Tripura chief minister Dr Manik Saha today sent a large consignment of ‘Queen’ variety of pineapples , the best quality fruit in Tripura, to the Bangladesh prime minister Tarique Rahaman across the international checkpost at Akhaura , west of Agartala . Earlier the Bangladesh prime minister Tarique Rahaman had sent a consignment of high-quality mangoes for the Tripura chief minister as part of goodwill gesture which has been continuing over the past many years.

Official sources said that a group of senior officials of the state government, agriculture secretary Apurba Roy, agriculture director Dr Phani Bhusan Jamatya, consultant Dr Rajiv Ghosh, Santanu Debbarma, Tripura executive of the Akhaura land port authority Debasish Majumder and others. From the Bangladesh side, the assistant consul officer of Indian high commission in Chittagong Pankaj Jyoti Das , executive Sajib Chakraborty from Chittagong assistant high commission had come to receive the consignment . After the paper work at the checkpost had been completed the agriculture secretary of Tripura government Apurba Roy and other accompanying officials handed over the consignment at zero point of the border to assistant high commissioner from Chittagong , Pankaj Jyoti Das . The consignment was then loaded on a vehicle brought to the border from Bangladesh side for onward journey into that country.

Speaking to media persons Apurba Roy said that the Bangladesh government had earlier sent a consignment of delicious mangoes to the Tripura chief minister as a goodwill gesture and now it is the turn of the state government to return the compliment. He expressed the hope that such mutual gestures will further strengthen the bilateral relation between India and Bangladesh. The agriculture director Phani Bhusan Jamatya said that today altogether 100 packets containing six each of delicious queen variety pineapples of Tripura had been sent. In total 600 pineapples have been sent , Phani Bhusan Jamatya added.
