42 Year Old Widow Brutally Attacked with Sharp Weapons in Bishramganj

A shocking incident of violent a 42-year-old widow assault in Tripura's Bishramganj police station area has sparked widespread concern over women's safety and law and order. The victim, widow from Uttar Pathariar village, is battling for her life after allegedly being attacked with sharp weapons by three accused following a prolonged dispute.
According to reports, the woman had been living alone for several years while her only son stays outside the state. Taking advantage of her vulnerable situation, two local men had allegedly been harassing and threatening her repeatedly. The victim had reportedly resisted their advances and attempts to intimidate her.
The situation escalated late on Monday night when the two accused, accompanied by another associate, allegedly entered her house and launched a brutal attack with sharp weapons. The woman sustained grievous injuries to her head and several parts of her body. One of her fingers was reportedly severed during the assault.
Hearing her cries for help, neighbours rushed to the spot, rescued her in a critically injured condition, and first shifted her to Bishramganj Primary Health Centre. Considering the severity of her injuries, doctors referred her to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala, where she remains admitted in the Trauma Care Unit. Hospital sources said she suffered deep wounds to her head and other parts of her body, and her condition is stated to be critical.
The incident has triggered strong public outrage, with local residents questioning the effectiveness of policing and security for women living alone. They alleged that anti-social activities, including drug-related crimes, have increased in the area, creating an atmosphere of fear.
Police have arrested three persons in connection with the attack and have launched an investigation. Authorities are examining the motive behind the assault and are expected to take further legal action based on the findings.
The brutal attack has once again highlighted concerns over the safety of women, particularly widows and those living alone, prompting renewed calls for stronger law enforcement, quicker intervention in harassment complaints, and stricter action against repeat offenders.
