Tripura on Tuesday signed separate memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) to promote financial literacy, investor awareness and skill development, with Chief Minister Manik Saha saying the initiative would help the state become an active participant in India's capital market-led growth.

The agreements were signed between the NSE and the State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD), the Directorate of Industries and Commerce, and the Directorate of Skill Development at a programme held at Pragya Bhavan here.

Addressing the event, Saha said the partnership marked a new phase in the state's efforts towards financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and skill development.

He said the collaboration with the NSE would focus on building capacity among government officials, youth, entrepreneurs, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and educational institutions by improving awareness of financial markets and investment opportunities.

"It is time for Tripura to become an active participant in India's financial growth story. By building capacity, educating entrepreneurs and encouraging public institutions to tap into capital markets, we can build a financially self-reliant and prosperous Tripura," the chief minister said.

Saha said the state government and the NSE would jointly develop training programmes on capital markets, mutual funds, insurance and investment advisory under the Directorate of Skill Development. He said the NSE would bear the programme cost, while the state government would provide training venues.

According to the chief minister, the initiative is aimed at improving the employability of students and youth in the banking, financial services and insurance sectors.

He also said the MoU with SIPARD would help create a network of certified master trainers to expand investor education across the state, while the partnership with the Directorate of Industries and Commerce would assist MSMEs, startups and entrepreneurs in accessing financial and capital market opportunities.

Referring to the state's economic indicators, Saha said Tripura had doubled its gross domestic product over the last six years and its per capita income was now at par with the national average. He said the government would continue to focus on entrepreneurship, investment promotion, digital transformation and financial inclusion to sustain economic growth.

Among those present at the programme were Tribal Welfare Minister Santana Chakma, Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, senior state government officials and representatives of the National Stock Exchange.
