The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly facing mounting organisational challenges in the 49-Chawmanu Assembly Constituency, represented by MLA Sambhu Lal Chakma, as a series of resignations by booth-level leaders has triggered speculation of a widening rift within the party.
According to local party sources, the President of Booth No. 5, along with several BJP workers, resigned from the party on Tuesday morning. Before the party could recover from that development, reports emerged that Discomoni Chakma, the President of Booth No. 12, is also preparing to resign.
Sources within the party have reportedly attributed the resignations to internal factionalism, dissatisfaction with the leadership, and allegations of neglect by the party organisation. However, no official statement has yet been issued by the BJP regarding the reported resignations or the reasons behind them.
Political observers believe that the back-to-back exits of two booth presidents within the same Assembly constituency could deal a significant blow to the BJP's grassroots organisational structure in the area. The developments have also fuelled speculation that additional resignations may follow if internal differences remain unresolved.
The reported resignations come at a time when political activities are intensifying across Tripura, with parties focusing on strengthening their organisational networks ahead of future electoral battles.
The BJP is yet to officially confirm the resignations or respond to the allegations of internal discord. If the reports are confirmed, the incident could pose a fresh organisational challenge for the ruling party in the Chawmanu constituency.
