The Anganwadi women workers posted in various centres have raised a seven point charter of demands . Yesterday a long procession of Anganwadi workers marched through Melaghar block area and reached the office of the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Prabal Kanti Barman. They also submitted a memorandum containing a seven point charter of demands. The demands include payment of Rs 300.00 per month for mobile recharge or annual recharge of their smart phones from office. Besides , a demand has been made to reasonably raise the feeding charge of children in view of the rise in the prices of all essential commodities.
Speaking to media persons Shobha Rani Barman, secretary of the Anganwadi Workers Union, said that they had also demanded a hike in contingency bills for the centres and sanction of funds for purchasing ‘Sarees’ for the Anwanwadi teachers and workers. Besides , payment of dearness allowance (DA) for the workers and fund of Rs 10 thousand for the centres have also been demanded.
While holding discussion with the delegation of representatives of the Anganwadi workers and teachers the CDPO Prabal Kanti Barman acknowledged the reasonable nature of their demands and said that he would submit their demands to the higher authority for consideration with their recommendations. However, the secretary of the Anganwadi Workers Union explained the logic behind their demand while speaking to media persons and said that unless their demands are met they will be left with no other alternative but to launch a protest programme.
