Police in Kailashahar have registered a case against a 70-year-old man and his married son for allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulting a 26-year-old mentally challenged woman, resulting in her pregnancy.
The alleged perpetrators have been identified as local residents Kanta Das (70) and his son Gautam Das, alias Kajal.
According to police sources, the victim—a divorced mother of a seven-year-old child—had been residing at her father's residence in the Bhagaban Nagar Gram Panchayat region. The complaint states that the primary accused, Kanta Das, leveraged his position as a trusted neighbour to lure the woman to his residence, where the initial assault occurred. Subsequently, his son also subjected the victim to repeated abuse. Both accused allegedly coerced her into silence through severe threats.
The matter surfaced after the victim's family detected physical changes and sought a medical evaluation, which confirmed she was six months pregnant.
Following the medical confirmation, the victim's father lodged an official complaint at the Kailashahar Women's Police Station on Sunday afternoon. Police officials confirmed that a detailed investigation has been initiated to apprehend the accused and complete statutory proceedings under relevant criminal statutes.
