Landmark judgment : 55 yearold man sentenced to twenty years imprisonment in POCSO case

In a landmark judgment the additional district and session judge (court no-3) Jhuma Datta Chowdhury yesterday sentenced a fifty five year old man to twenty years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50 thousand for sexual abuse of a girl child two years ago. In default of payment of the fine the convicted person shall serve three more months of rigorous imprisonment.

According to details of the case Gopal Gosh (55), resident and son of late Gourgopal Ghosh of Ananga Nagar area under Airport police station, had called in her home a neighbouring minor girl when he was alone at home and sexually abused the girl but stopped short of rape. Since Gopal had closed the door of his room and threatened the girl she could not even shout for help. This happened on January 25 2024 afternoon. But after returning home the minor girl disclosed everything to her parents who filed a FIR with the Airport police station.

The investigating officer of the case was sub-inspector Rahul Das (now posted in NCC police station) who meticulously investigated the case and collected all evidence and finally submitted the charge-sheet in court within a short period on February 29 2024. The trial in the case then commenced and in course of this all witnesses were examined and evidences taken note of . Gopal Ghosh had been found guilty of offences under several sections of the POCSO act and finally the sentencing was proclaimed yesterday . The additional district and session judge (court no-3) Jhuma Datta Chowdhury sentenced Gopal Ghosh to twenty years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50 thousand , ruling that in default of payment of the fine the convict shall serve three more month of rigorous imprisonment.
