Flood situation in Teliamura , people evacuated to relief camps , administration in action

With the Khowai river rising close to danger level following two days of incessant rainfall, a flood situation has been created in Teliamura subdivisional town. According to reports from Teliamura , thousands of families living along the banks of the river fear being flooded away by surging water that is likely to rise further in case the rain continues. The people in Shanti Nagar area under Ward no-6, Dashamighat area under Wards no-4 and 5 and Netaji Nagar area under Ward no-9 as well as Trishabari, Moharcherra and area under Kalyanpur block stand in danger of flood . In most of these areas water has entered residential premises of people . Fearing the worst many families have shifted their essentials to safer locations away. Since the rainfall is continuing there is real fear of a flood as it happened in the year 2024.

The chairman of the Teliamura municipality Rupak Sarkar and deputy CEO Pradip Kumar Sarkar visited the affected areas from morning and directed the NDRF, Fire Brigade and other wings of the administration including the police to remain in a state of high preparedness to face any eventuality. The Teliamura municipality chairman Rupak Sarkar told media persons that seven relief camps have already been opened to provide shelter to people affected by rain-water and surging water from the river Khowai and , in addition, another relief shelter has been opened in the Moharcherra school. “If necessary many more people will be brought to the relief camps and we have kept ready food , medicine etc for the affected people” said Rupak Sarkar.

Meanwhile, the SDM Teliamura Apurba Krishna Chakraborty said that the administration has swung into action already to cope with the situation that may worsen because of continuing heavy rainfall. “ We have put the people living along the river bank on high alert and 10/15 families of Dashami Ghat area have been shifted to the Shishu Malancha school relief ; we are providing them with food , medicine and other essential items” said Apurba Krishna Chakraborty. He added that in view of the weather alerts about more rainfall being sounded out by the meteriological department all measures are being taken by the administration to cope with the likely crisis situation.
