Manu river in spate, thirty six families rendered homeless, medical store of GBP water-logged

Massive monsoon rainfall over the past twenty four hours has created a serious flood situation in Manu area under Dhalai district as the Manu river flowing by the area has already crossed the danger mark. Sources from Manu said that because of heavy and constant rain over the past twenty four the swollen water of the Manu river has entered many residential premises and as a result altogether 36 families had to be evacuated to safer locations by the administration. They have been temporarily allowed to stay in the nearby school in Manu, Anganwadi centre and Manu town hall.

Shortly after receiving information about the deteriorating situation from rising water level the member of district council (MDC) from Manu-Chhailengta area Holywood Chakma , SDM of Chhailengta Subrata Das and other officials rushed to the worst-affected Ghotgochho area under Manu . The officials inspected the entire area thoroughly and spoke to the affected and evaciuated people and assured then of all help in the crisis. The SDM Subrata Das said that the situation is being watched and arrangements for assistance to the flood affected people is being made.

Meanwhile, the medical store attached to the GBP hospital has got water-logged by seeping and entry of rainwater due incessant rain over the past twenty four hours. The medical store is reportedly run by the ‘Rogi Kalyan Samity’ (patient welfare committee). Sources said that lot medicines stored in the medical store have been damaged by the water.
