Heavy Monsoon Showers Lash Tripura, Chamanu Records State's Highest Rainfall at 139.2 mm

Widespread monsoon rainfall continued to drench Tripura on Wednesday, with several parts of the state recording moderate to very heavy precipitation. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chhamanu in Dhalai district received the highest rainfall of 139.2 mm, followed by Ambassa (110.6 mm), Lembuchhera (105.5 mm), Gandachherra (102.5 mm) and DM Office, Agartala (102 mm).

The rainfall brought much-needed relief from the recent spell of humid weather but also raised concerns over localized waterlogging, traffic disruptions and possible landslides in vulnerable hilly areas.

In West Tripura, Lembuchhera recorded 105.5 mm, the DM Office 102 mm, Secretariat 95.5 mm, Agartala Airport 88.5 mm, Hezamara 82.8 mm, and Houra 81.8 mm, indicating widespread heavy rainfall across the district.

In Dhalai district, besides Chhamanu's highest reading, Ambassa received 110.6 mm, Manughat 100.2 mm, Gandachherra 102.5 mm, while Kamalpur recorded 36 mm. Interestingly, Chhailengta reported no rainfall (0 mm), highlighting the uneven distribution of monsoon showers.

Unakoti district also experienced significant rainfall, with Kumarghat recording 92.5 mm, Nidebi 85.2 mm, Kailashahar 58.8 mm, and Dashamighat and Nutanbazar each receiving 46.2 mm.

In South Tripura, Sabroom received 87 mm, Bagafa 56.2 mm, Belonia 53.4 mm, while Rajnagar recorded 19.4 mm. North Tripura witnessed moderate rainfall, with Kadamtala and Churaibari each recording 58.5 mm, Kailashahar 58.8 mm, Panisagar 56.5 mm, and Ashapara 49.5 mm.

Rainfall in Khowai district ranged between 28.4 mm and 55.5 mm, while Gomati district recorded 55.6 mm at Amarpur, 45.6 mm at Udaipur, and moderate rainfall in other locations. Sepahijala district experienced comparatively lighter rainfall, with Bishalgarh recording only 2.4 mm, while Sonamura Mohanbhog received 39.6 mm.

The IMD data indicate that the southwest monsoon remains active over Tripura, with rainfall varying significantly across districts. Authorities are expected to keep a close watch on low-lying and landslide-prone areas as intermittent heavy showers are likely to continue during the ongoing monsoon season.
