Tripura CM says legal action taken promptly against tainted IAS, IFS officers

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said the state government has already initiated action against an IAS officer and an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer facing separate allegations of corruption involving crores of rupees, adding that further proceedings would be carried out strictly in accordance with the law.

His remarks come amid two high-profile cases involving senior officers. South Tripura Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Gaurav Ravindra Wagh is reportedly absconding after his maternal uncle was detained with Rs 59.94 lakh in cash, while IAS officer Abhishek Chandra has been named in a case related to an alleged Rs 14.5 crore tender processing fraud.

Addressing reporters, Saha said the government acted immediately after the allegations surfaced and had already taken administrative measures wherever required.

"We cannot act outside the legal framework. There is a prescribed process, and the law will take its own course. As soon as the matter came to our notice, we initiated action and removed him from the post. Further action will proceed as per the law," the chief minister said.

On the case involving the IFS officer, Saha said departmental proceedings had already been initiated and efforts were continuing to trace and apprehend him.

"He is absconding, but he will be arrested soon. Necessary departmental action has already been taken, and the government is closely monitoring the developments," he said.

The chief minister reiterated that the state government would deal with both cases in accordance with legal provisions and due process.
