Tripura steps up monsoon preparedness, power minister calls for zero disruption

Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday reviewed the state's monsoon preparedness and directed officials of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) to ensure uninterrupted power supply, particularly to essential services, during heavy rainfall and other weather-related disruptions.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the TSECL headquarters here, Nath said maintaining uninterrupted electricity supply during the monsoon was a priority and instructed officials to remain prepared for immediate restoration of services in the event of outages caused by rain, storms or other natural calamities.

The meeting was attended by TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu and senior officials, while officials from West Tripura, Sepahijala and Khowai districts joined through virtual mode.

The minister directed officials to give priority to consumer complaints and ensure their prompt resolution to minimise inconvenience to the public.

He also reviewed issues related to prepaid electricity services, including challenges in recharge facilities, and asked the concerned agencies and technical teams to adopt measures to minimise technical glitches and improve service delivery.

Nath stressed that power supply to hospitals, drinking water supply centres and other essential government establishments should not be disrupted under any circumstances. He also asked officials to ensure reliable electricity supply to domestic and commercial consumers during the monsoon season.

According to officials, the meeting reviewed the overall power situation in the state, round-the-clock service readiness, progress in electricity bill collection, disposal of consumer grievances and preparedness of various departments to deal with possible emergencies during the rainy season.

The minister instructed officials to keep adequate manpower, equipment and other resources ready for immediate deployment in case of disruptions, they said.

No separate response was issued by TSECL following the meeting.
