CPI (M) leader’s house set afire by miscreants , party protests

As part of the rapidly deteriorating law and order situation across the state , worsened by police inaction, a suspected gang of BJP miscreants on Sunday night set afire the house of CPI (M) leader Debasish Das in Chankap area under Kamalpur subdivision . The entire assets of the house were burnt to ashes in the conflagration that had spread rapidly . Yesterday , the subdivisional leadership of Kamalpur organized a protest against the politically motivated arsoning and a rally from Chankap moved through different areas.

Giving details of the incident sources from Kamalpur said that around 12-00 on Sunday night a gang of suspected BJP miscreants had sneaked into the residence of Debasish Das , a member of CPI(M) subdivisional committee and secretary of the CITU in Kamalpur , and set afire a thatched room stocked with firewood . Debasish’s only daughter who had been studying till late into the night smelt petrol and waked up her parents to find that the fire had spread and engulfed the entire house . All the members managed to rush out of the burning semi-construction building to save their lives but before the fire-tenders arrived to douse the fire all the furnitures and valuables got burnt to ashes.

Outraged by the arsoning a large number of CPI (M) workers led by subdivisional secretary and former MLA Anjan Das and Dhalai district committee member of CPI (M) Tapas Sinha gathered in front of the house of Debasish Das at Chankap yesterday and moved through Debicherra and Basti areas . Addressing the meeting Anjan Das , former MLA and incumbent sundivisional committee secretary said that since the year 2018 this was the fourth time that Debasish Das’s house had been attacked and set afire and unless Debasish’s daughter had sensed what had happened the entire family would have been scorched to death. “This family is extremely poor and dependent on the family pension left behind by Debasish’s later father who was a teacher” said Anjan , adding that the BJP is trying to terrorise and weaken the leaders and workers of the CPI (M) but this will not be possible as the people are now waking up to the reality of BJP’s misrule .
