The implementation of the historic Tripartite Accord concerning the indigenous people of Tripura came under detailed review at a high-level meeting held in New Delhi on Monday. The meeting assumed significance amid ongoing efforts to ensure the timely execution of commitments made under the agreement and growing expectations for further negotiations on with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on various unresolved issues affecting the Tiprasa community.

The today’s meeting was attended by newly appointed North East Region Advisor Ajit Lal, Tipra Motha Party MLA Ranjit Debbarma, and senior government officials, including IGP Rajesh Kamble (IPS). Discussions centered on the progress achieved so far in implementing the Tripartite Accord signed between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and representatives of the indigenous people of the state.

A major issue raised during the today’s deliberations was the delay in convening the Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting, which is regarded as a key mechanism for monitoring and expediting the implementation of various provisions of the Accord. Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma stressed the need to hold the JWG meeting at the earliest so that pending issues can be reviewed and addressed in a time-bound manner.

During the meeting, Debbarma also expressed concern over the continued influx of people and cross-border movements along the Tripura-Bangladesh border. He highlighted the need for stronger measures to tackle illegal infiltration and strengthen border security. Detailed information regarding the prevailing situation along the international border and its impact on the demographic and socio-economic concerns of indigenous communities was shared with the officials present.

The participants also reviewed the implementation status of agreements signed with former insurgent groups, including the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF). While acknowledging the progress made in maintaining peace and stability in the state, concerns were raised regarding delays in fulfilling certain commitments under the agreements.

Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma urged the concerned authorities to accelerate the implementation process to ensure lasting peace and confidence among all stakeholders.

The socio-economic development of Tripura's indigenous communities also figured prominently in the discussions. Officials emphasized the importance of ensuring that the benefits and safeguards promised under the Accord reach the grassroots level without unnecessary delay. Debbarma reiterated that the successful and timely implementation of the agreement would contribute significantly to peace, stability, development, and the protection of indigenous rights in Tripura.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from all stakeholders to continue dialogue and coordination for the effective implementation of the Tripartite Accord and related agreements aimed at the welfare and advancement of the indigenous people of Tripura.

Meanwhile, political circles are closely watching developments in New Delhi as Tipra Motha Party founder and royal scion of Tripura, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, is currently in the national capital. Sources indicated that there is a possibility of his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming days to discuss the future course of negotiations related to the Tiprasa Accord and other pending demands concerning the indigenous people of Tripura.

The outcome of these discussions is expected to be crucial in shaping the next phase of the implementation process and determining the political roadmap for addressing the aspirations of the Tiprasa community.
