Kalamchaura OC closed from charge and posted to West district SP office, political pressure suspected

As part of a reshuffle of officers at the police station level the officer in charge of bordering Kalamchaura police station in Sonamura subdivision has been closed from service and posted in the west Tripura district SP office until further order. This is believed to have been done under political pressure, sources said .

Even though a number of officers in charge of different police stations have been transferred and posted , the closure from active duty of Subimal Barman , officer in charge of Kalamchaura police station , has drawn attention of concerned circles as towards the end of last month he had been at the receiving end of a torrid round of vile invectives from the sitting MLA of Boxanagar Tofazzal Hossain of Boxangar where the Kalamchaura police station is located only because Subimal Barman had refused to obliged the MLA by agreeing to sort out an issue by speaking to one of his acolytes.

The MLA’s angry outburst and filthy language had circulated across social media and outraged people who believed that the highest level of leadership in the ruling party would speak to the MLA and chastise him as the OC Subimal Barman had only cited constitutional land legal grounds while expressing his inability to oblige MLA Tofazzel Hossain. But in stead he has been closed from active duty , arousing curiosity in the minds of people.

Sources said that bordering Kalamchaura police station that always has to deal with smugglers and border criminals has always been a centre of controversies as the previous officer in charge Narugopal Deb also had to be closed because of his nexus with undesirable elements in the area . Narugopal’s predecessor also had to be closed amidst a controversy.Before that a sub-inspector of the Kalamchaura police station Durga Kumar Hrangkhawal had been murdered by unidentified criminals at the ‘Naka’point near the police station in November 2019 . Before being murdered, being crushed by a speeding vehicle, Durga Kumar had stopped extortion of money from vehicles by local criminals at the ‘Naka’point but there was no arrest or serious investigation into the crime . Now the closure from duty of OC Subimal Barman has raised fresh questions over the home department’s seriousness about controlling crimes and restoring order in the troubled Kalamchaura police station area.
