Class 8 Student Raped After Being Held Captive in School for 7 Hours, Accused is Son of Ruling Party Leader, No Arrest Yet

Widespread outrage has erupted in the Anandanagar area under the Srinagar Police Station jurisdiction following the rape of a Class 8 student who was held captive inside her school. The incident allegedly involved the son of a local ruling party leader, who detained the minor girl inside the school premises during the summer vacation. The victim, her family, and local residents are demanding severe punishment for the accused. This incident serves as yet another grim example of the lack of safety for children and adolescent girls under the current regime.

Reports indicate that this shocking incident occurred on June 6 at Anandanagar Higher Secondary School. It is alleged that Badal (19), son of Uttam Saha from Anandanagar’s Ward No. 4, intimidated the Class 8 student and brought her to the school. The youth confined the teenager in a room on the second floor from 12:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The victim has alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Rahul Saha. She stated that Rahul threatened to harm her parents, compelling her to accompany him to the school. The Tripura State Committee of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) has expressed deep concern over this brutal incident. The accused, son of a ruling party leader, intimidated the student, took her to the school, locked her in a second-floor room for hours, and subjected her to brutal torture and rape. With the school currently closed for summer vacation, questions are being raised as to how the accused obtained the keys to the classroom. Similar allegations had been made against the accused in the past, but no action was taken because his mother is a leader of the ruling party.
