While state power Minister Ratan Lal Nath continue to maintain that there is no load shedding in Tripura, residents of Narkelkunj and adjoining areas have alleged that they have been enduring severe hardship for months due to frequent load shedding and irregular electricity supply. The prolonged power crisis has not only disrupted daily life but has also dealt a major blow to the local tourism sector, particularly homestay operators who depend on uninterrupted electricity to serve visitors.

According to local residents, several villages and habitations in and around Narkelkunj have been facing frequent power outages and persistent low-voltage problems for an extended period. The situation has left many households struggling to carry out routine activities, while businesses dependent on electricity have suffered considerable losses.

Homestay owners in the region have emerged as some of the worst affected. They claim that inadequate power supply has made it increasingly difficult to provide basic amenities to tourists. Due to low voltage, ceiling fans fail to operate properly, air conditioners remain unusable, and water pumps often stop functioning, creating significant inconvenience for guests. As a result, visitor dissatisfaction has increased, threatening the reputation and growth of tourism in the scenic Narkelkunj area.

Local residents alleged that despite repeated complaints, the power department failed to take effective steps to address the issue. They said that although electricity supply was partially restored after recent media reports highlighted the situation, the voltage remained extremely low, rendering the service largely ineffective and leaving the core problem unresolved.

Frustrated by the continued crisis, a large number of residents from Narkelkunj and neighbouring localities, along with representatives of the Homestay Association, gathered at the Gandacherra Sub-Divisional Electricity Office on Monday. A delegation comprising 14 representatives from different areas submitted a memorandum demanding immediate improvement of electricity services and a permanent solution to the long-standing problem.

As the Senior Manager was absent, the memorandum was received by Junior Manager Sanjay Reang. The delegation presented a detailed account of the difficulties faced by residents and businesses, emphasizing the urgent need for reliable power supply in the area.

Following the submission of the deputation, an extensive discussion was held between the representatives and officials of the electricity department. During the meeting, the delegation reiterated that uninterrupted and adequate electricity is essential not only for residents but also for sustaining the area's growing tourism industry.

Responding to the concerns, Junior Manager Sanjay Reang informed the delegation that work to install a new 63 KVA transformer in the area would commence on Tuesday. Officials expressed hope that the new transformer would significantly improve voltage levels and help alleviate the electricity-related difficulties faced by residents.
