Seven-Year-Old Girl Drowns While Bathing in Pond in South Tripura

A seven-year-old girl drowned while bathing in a pond with her grandmother in the Matai Krishnapur area under Rishyamukh Assembly constituency of South Tripura on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Ishita Mitra (7).

According to family members, Ishita had gone to bathe in a pond near her house with her grandmother in the afternoon. During the bath, she accidentally slipped into deep water and disappeared beneath the surface.

Realising what had happened, her grandmother raised an alarm, prompting local villagers and youths to rush to the spot. After an extensive search, the child was rescued from the pond and immediately taken to Belonia Sub-Divisional Hospital on a motorcycle.

However, doctors at the hospital declared her dead on arrival.

The tragic news cast a pall of gloom over the hospital premises as grieving family members, relatives and locals gathered there. Following a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family.

The untimely death of the young girl has left the Matai Krishnapur area in deep mourning.
