The Tripura Guerrilla Returnees’ Demand Committee (TGRDC), a platform of ex rebels, has withdrawn its proposed rail-road blockade scheduled for June 5 following talks with the state government.

It has to be noted here that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Tripura and attend a series of events on June 05.

The decision came after a meeting chaired by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, during which representatives of the surrendered militants raised their demands. The government assured them that their concerns would be examined and addressed.

Sources said a follow-up meeting involving various line departments and representatives of the surrendered militants will be held on June 9 to work towards a long-term solution to their issues.

The government is also pursuing additional financial support for the rehabilitation of surrendered militants under the Chief Minister's Rubber Mission.
