In a landmark achievement that has brought immense pride to Tripura, the Sepahijala District Panchayat has secured the No. 1 position among all District Panchayats in India under the prestigious Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (NDSPSVP) 2025, awarded by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India. The award recognizes outstanding performance in grassroots governance, sustainable development, public service delivery, and community participation.
The historic recognition marks a golden chapter in Tripura’s development journey and underscores the state's growing reputation as a national leader in rural governance and Panchayati Raj administration. Along with the top national ranking, Sepahijala District Panchayat has also received a financial incentive of Rs.5 crore, further strengthening its capacity to undertake innovative development initiatives and improve public services at the grassroots level.
The award was presented at a grand national ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on June 3, 2026. Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh handed over the prestigious award in the presence of senior officials, elected representatives, and distinguished guests from across the country. Representing Tripura on the occasion were Sepahijala District Magistrate Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, IAS, and Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Supriya Das, who received the honour on behalf of the people of the district.
The award is a recognition of Sepahijala's remarkable achievements in rural development, sustainable governance, effective implementation of government schemes, public participation, social inclusion, and transparent administration. It reflects the collective efforts of Panchayat representatives, government officials, local communities, and development stakeholders who have worked together to transform rural areas and improve the quality of life of citizens.
Speaking after receiving the award, district representatives described the achievement as a proud moment not only for Sepahijala but for the entire state of Tripura. They expressed gratitude to the citizens, elected representatives, Panchayat members, government officials, and community organizations whose dedication and cooperation made the accomplishment possible. They emphasized that the recognition carries greater responsibility and will inspire them to continue working towards inclusive and sustainable development.
Tripura's success at the national awards ceremony extended beyond Sepahijala. The state achieved a remarkable feat by securing three major national honours under the Panchayat Awards framework. Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat in Unakoti district secured the first position in the Best Healthy Panchayat category and received a financial award of Rs.1 crore, while Baikunthapur Gram Panchayat in West Tripura district achieved third place in the Women-Friendly Panchayat category, earning a cash award of Rs.50 lakh.
These multiple national recognitions highlight Tripura’s rapid progress in rural development, healthcare, social welfare, women's empowerment, and inclusive governance.
