After a period of slowdown voluntary blood donation seems to be gaining in momentum in different parts of the state. In order to encourage the process the chief minister Dr Manik Saha today personally inaugurated a voluntary blood donation camp organized by the Ram Krishna Club authority in Ram Nagar (Road no-3) area. The Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder also attended the programme alongside the chief minister.
Sources said that in the voluntary blood donation camp altogether 50 residents of the area donated blood . The president of Ram Krishna Club Nirmal Bardhan Roy thanked the CCIP guests for making it convenient to attend the programme and said that his club will be organizing such camps in future. The chief minister Dr Manik Saha who formally inaugurated the camp hailed the initiative taken by the Ram Krishna club for voluntary blood donation and described this as the ‘noblest and most human gift’ to society. Dr Saha said that Tripura is in urgent need of voluntary blood donation because the blood stored in the blood banks of the state can not cater to the needs of all the patients who need blood transfusion. He asserted that with expansion of health infrastructure more and more blood will be required and voluntary donation can make up for any shortfall in this regard.
The AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder who also addressed the gathering appreciated the initiative taken by the Ram Krishna club. He called upon the club authority to keep organizing such camps a major priority in their annual calendar of activities.
