Trouble in Nagerjala auto and bus stand, inner bickerings of BJP come to the fore

An incident in Nagerjala bus and autorickshaw stand this morning disrupted movement of vehicles as there was a blockade of the stand by an irate group of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) workers in protest against the alleged mismanagement of the stand . Allegations between a group of motor workers affiliated with the BMS and local corporator (Ward no-33) Abhijit Mullick flew thick and high over the issue . A leader of the BMS unit in Nagerjala Liton Kar alleged that he had been assaulted by a group of miscreants deputed by corporator Abhijit Mullick.

Sources from the area said that a group of bus and autorickshaw workers owing allegiance to Liton Kar had been seething in anger over the issue of daily realization of Rs 8-00 , Rs 10.00 and Rs 50.00 each from autorickshaw, bus and other vehicles as parking charge and utilization of the same or sharing of the spoils. Speaking to media persons Liton Kar said that despite the fairly large collection of funds the Society running the Nagerjala bus and autorickshaw stand does not provide even basic amenities like drinking water to the driver and passengers . “ Recently a lady bus passenger from Amarpur had started vomiting after deboarding from the bus but we could not give her even drinking water ; such things had happened earlier also ; our repeated request to the corporator Abhijit Mullick for arranging drinking water facility did not produce any result” said Liton Kar . He lso blamed the Society headed by corporator Abhijit Mullick and his hand-picked men for looting the daily collection of funds as parking charges without even making provision for a tube-well in the entire Nagerjala stand and basic facility of first aid or primary treatment of sick workers. He added that the workers in the stand never receive any help from the Society when at need. As a mark of protest the dissident workers led by Liton Kar had launched a road blockade programme which led to stoppage of movement of all vehicles to and from the Nagerjala stand. This blockade was broken by the followers of corporator Abhijit Mullick, leading to injury inflicted on Liton Kar .

However, speaking to media persons corporator Abhijit Mullick gave a different version blaming the entire ruckus today on the conspiracy of Liton Kar and his acolytes . “The allegations they have uttered against me are totally false as I have been trying to help the workers attached to the Nagerjala stand whenever they face a problem; they are simply misusing the banner of BMS for personal gains ; this Liton Kar had on earlier occasions misbehaved with a college going girl and other women and on all occasions I got the disputes settled ; what he did today was a crime because this temporarily stopped movement of vehicles at peak hour quite illegally” said Abhijit. He also charged that Liton Kar and his followers littre the Nagerjala stand with bottles of liquor every night, adding that he has been trying to help the workers in the stand in the best possible manner.
