Tripura soon to get two more universities for women and engineering students

Tripura government has already obtained permission from the central education department for setting up two more universities-one exclusively for women based on state womens college at Agartala and an engineering university based on the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) at Narsingarh. The current infrastructure of the womens college at Agartala and the TIT at Narsingarh will be expanded through extension of hostel facilities before launching the universities on full scale. A gazette notification in this regard has already been issued , as reported by sources.
The TIT at Narsingarh will be upgraded to a technical university with facilities for higher education in engineering sciences . The government of India will provide the finances for the two new universities and the process of appointing vice chancellors and registrars will be set in motion soon. In the next phase posts of assistant professors, associate professors , professors, assistant registrars, deputy registrars and joint registrars will be filled up and the state’s candidates having requisite qualifications such NET and SLET qualifying certificates will have an opportunity for appointments to the posts while the existing teaching staff will have an opportunity for upward mobility through promotions.
Sources said that studies at the master degree level in the two universities will begin from the next financial year. This will expand opportunities for students of state to access higher education. Sources said that in the state’s first women university master degree level studies will start with courses on Arts, Science, Commerce and in a phased manner courses such as BBA, BCA,MCA, LLB, Mass Communication, Public Relations, LLM, Integrated Master Degree , Tourism Study and Library Science will be added, sources added.
