Three journalists assaulted and injured by gamblers in Dharma Nagar , complaint filed

There has been a fresh physical attack on journalists in Dharma Nagar and even though complaint against this assault has been filed with the police , no action has as yet been taken by Dharma Nagar police station . The attack on journalists has sparked widespread reaction among people in Dharma Nagar.

Giving details sources from Dharma Nagar said that a ‘Charak’ fair began in Dharma Nagar two days ago and there were allegations of organized gambling racket operating in the fair even in presence of police personnel posted there. This is operational even today. Sources said that last night around 9-00 in the night three journalists named Pratim Das, Aritra Sen and Khairul Hassan had gone there in connection with coverage of the fair and its features.

But a gang of gamblers who had seen them suddenly came forward and pounced on them. Taken aback by the sudden attack the three journalists failed to defend themselves and were injured. Even though there were policemen on duty nearby they looked the other way and never tried to save them . A large number of outraged people also stood aghast but the journalists got beaten up. Later the three journalists filed a complaint with the Dharma Nagar police station but no action has been taken to nab the culprits.

The incident of attack on the journalist trio has been condemned by the Tripura Working Journalist Association (TWJA). Speaking to media persons a spokesman of the TWJA demanded that action be taken against the culprits for the assault on journalists.
