Tension gripped the Bishalgarh court complex in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Monday evening after a woman accused a police officer of misconduct, triggering protests by local residents and a scuffle that left several women with minor injuries.

The woman, Pratiksha Laskar (Sarkar), wife of an accused in the Bishalgarh firing and extortion case, alleged that she was called to the court premises in connection with an investigation and was subjected to inappropriate behaviour by the investigating officer. She claimed the officer attempted to record her without consent and physically handled her when she objected.

The officer named in the allegations has been identified as Mithun Saha, the investigating officer in the case.

The allegations sparked protests inside the court complex, with a group of women demanding action against the officer. The demonstration was joined by the woman’s family members, who also questioned the police investigation into the firing and extortion case.

As the crowd swelled, police personnel moved to disperse the protesters, leading to a brief scuffle. Several women reportedly sustained minor injuries during the confrontation.

The accused woman’s family alleged that she had been pressured to sign documents related to the case and claimed the police had acted improperly. The police have not yet issued an official statement on the allegations or the circumstances that led to the clash.

The incident has drawn attention in the district, with demands for an impartial inquiry into the allegations and the events that unfolded inside the court complex.
