The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) today held a meeting of the PCC to review the performance of the party in the just-concluded election to ADC as well as the by-election to the Dharma Nagar assembly seat . The meeting was attended by the PCC president Asish Kumar Saha, veteran MLA and party leader Sudip Roybarman, spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty and other leaders.

Sources said that the leaders and members of PCC present in the meeting opined that , but for the ‘betrayal’ of CPI (M) in unilaterally declaring candidature for the by-poll , the performance of the opposition would have been far better. “The Congress had contested the Dharma Nagar seat quite creditably in 2023 and had raised no question over CPI (M)’s candidature in Dhanpur, Boxa Nagar etc but had rather co-operated with the CPI (M) as part of alliance but they declared the candidature for Dharma Nagar seat this time unilaterally without a word with the Congress ; had there been a united fight we could have done better” said a senior leader. Regarding the ADC election the PCC members felt that in stead of going it alone in the polls they should have held discussion with the Congress. “It is true that CPI (M) is stronger in ADC areas but they could at least have held a discussion with us but they did not do so”said another leader.

The PCC did not issue any statement on the issue but sources said that the discussion in the meeting was satisfactory and it was decided that the party will continue its organizational initiative to strengthen the party. A consensus was reached on greater unification in the party and united work to organize people against the repressive policies of the BJP government here.
