Daring theft in two shops in Belonia town within stone’s throw of the police station

Even as petty crimes in the state have registered a spurt mainly because of growing drug addiction , the performance of duties by police personnel posted in different police stations has come under a cloud . The daring thefts last night in two shops in Belonia town within a stone’s throw of the police station has raised questions over the police performance including mobile duty.

Sources from Belonia said that two consecutive thefts occurred in Belonia town in shops standing side by side and cash and valuables were taken away by the thieves . The matter came to notice this morning as Sanjay Chakraborty, owner of a homeopathy medicine shop came to his shop and found the door of a tailoring shop unlocked . Suspecting foul play he immediately called up Sulekha Deb, the owner of the tailoring shop and she arrived to find that cash and valuables from her shop had disappeared . Sulekha also found the barricade between her tailoring shop and the homeopathy medicine shop of Sanjay Chakraborty broken . After being informed of this Sanjay Chakraborty unlocked the door of his shop and entered to find that cash and valuables had been taken away by the thieves . However , neither Sanjay Chakraborty nor Sulekha Deb could specify the money value of the items stolen. A police team that arrived after being informed of the thefts noted down the details and registered a case. The duty officer also assured the shop-owners that the stolen items will be recovered from the thieves.
