New twist to suicide of BJP councillor Rahul Kishore Roy, wife accuses Barnali and Jawhar

In a new twist to the controversy over the induced suicide of BJP councillor of Dharma Nagar municipality (Ward no-5) and ‘Juba Morcha Mandal’ president Rahul Kishore Roy has taken a new turn with the deceased councillor’s wife Ananya Bhattacharya accusing former state women commission chair-person Barnali Goswami and her husband Jawhar Chakraborty of having plotted the death of her husband. Speaking to media persons and social media activists Rahul’s wife Ananya Bhattacharya who is five months pregnant said that the duo of Barnali Goswami and the latter’s husband Jawhar Chakraborty had long been nursing a baseless anger against Rahul. In the run-up to the assembly election of 2023 a group of people owing allegiance to late MLA and speaker Bishwabandhu Sen had assaulted Barnali Goswami who had been trying to secure nomination in place of him. “She and her husband wrongly thought that my husband was in the group but this is absolutely wrong and baseless ; my husband Rahul never formed part of the assailant group as he was not here and even in the just-concluded by-election to Dharma Nagar seat he worked sincerely for Jawhar Chakraborty but the duo plotted the attack on our house and humiliated my old in-laws besides abusing my husband who was forced to commit suicide” said Ananya , demanding justice for the forced suicide of her husband Rahul Kishore Roy. She added that she had informed Barnali and Jawhar of their condition but there was no help.

Rahul’s mother Anjana Bhattacharya also gave a description of how the attacks on her house had taken place and how the assailants had humiliated herself besides demanding that her son Rahul be handed over to them. She said that their residence had been attacked twice and after the second attack and insults heaped on her Rahul broke down in tears and grieved that his mother had to be insulted for his political activism . Finally his hanging dead body was sighted in the bathroom of the house early in the morning. Rahul’s wife Ananya named Kankan Chowdhury, Hirakjyoti Nath, Manoj Purkayastha, Niladri Bhattacharjee, Abhijit Das, Suraj Deb and Prabal Deb and a few unidentified miscreants as attackers in their house , holding them responsible for the induced suicide of her husband Rahul Kishore. The officer in charge of Dharma Nagar police station Meena Debbarma said that the FIR had been registered under various relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) and prompt action will be taken in the case by arresting the FIR-named culprits.
