Tipra Motha Sweeps TTAADC 2026 with 24 Seats, BJP Reduced to 4, Congress, CPI(M), IPFT Draw Blank

In a historic and decisive verdict in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections 2026, the Tipra Motha Party has returned to power with a resounding mandate, winning 24 out of 28 seats and firmly establishing its dominance across the tribal belt. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on the other hand, managed to secure only 4 seats, while major political parties such as the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress, and Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) failed to win even a single seat, marking a complete political wipeout for them in the ADC.

According to the latest data released by the State Election Commission on April 17, 2026, Tipra Motha candidates registered victories across almost all constituencies, reflecting a strong consolidation of tribal votes in favour of the party. Key winners include leaders such as Rabindra Debbarma from Simna-Tamakari, Buddha Kumar Debbarma from Amtali-Golaghati, James Debbarma from Ramchandraghat, Dhirendra Debbarma from Demchhara-Kachuchhara, Jagadish Debbarma from Jirania, David Murasing from Kathalia-Mirja-Rajapur, and Prasmit Debbarma from Halahali-Asharambari, among others. This widespread success across districts underlines the party’s deep grassroots penetration and growing acceptance among the indigenous population.

In contrast, BJP’s victories were limited to four constituencies—Chhawmanu, Dasda-Kanchanpur, Silachhari-Manubankul, and Machmara—where its candidates managed to hold ground despite the broader wave in favour of Tipra Motha. The sharp decline in BJP’s performance in the tribal areas is being seen as a significant setback for the ruling party.

The results also highlight a dramatic shift from the 2021 TTAADC elections, where the Tipra Motha-led alliance had secured 18 seats, including 16 won by Tipra Motha itself, while BJP had won 9 seats and an independent candidate had secured one seat, with the Left Front failing to open its account even then. In 2026, Tipra Motha has significantly improved its tally to 24 seats, indicating a consolidation and expansion of its support base, while BJP’s numbers have declined sharply and other parties have been completely eliminated from the council.

Political observers believe that this election marks a turning point in Tripura’s hill politics, with Tipra Motha emerging as the undisputed dominant force and traditional parties like CPI(M), Congress, and IPFT losing their relevance in the ADC power structure. The results reflect a clear shift in voter sentiment towards regional leadership and indigenous identity-based politics.

With this emphatic mandate, Tipra Motha is now set to form the new council with absolute authority, but the responsibility of governance and fulfilling public expectations will be crucial in the coming days. For BJP, the outcome serves as a serious warning signal, pointing to organizational weaknesses and the urgent need to reconnect with grassroots workers and voters ahead of future electoral battles, particularly the 2028 Assembly elections.
