Huge quantity of ‘Ganja’ seized by Jatrapur police station officers from Kathalia gram panchayat

Pulling off a major success in anti-drug operation a team of police personnel led by the newly posted officer in charge of Jatrapur police station of Sonamura subdivision, Partha Nath Bhowmik seized a big consignment of 32 kgs of contraband ‘Ganja’ from a top smuggler in Kalibari area under the Kathalia gram panchayat area. The smuggler involved in carrying the ‘Ganja’ consignment Rubel Hossain (25) was also arrested along with the Baleno vehicle in which the consignment was being carried.

Giving details of the successful operation and the seizure OC Partha Nath Bhowmik who had joined his post on April 7 told media persons that he had received a feedback that a big consignment of contraband ‘Ganja’ would be smuggled to Bangladesh through the road that leads to the border from Jatrapur police station. He said that upon receipt of the feedback he had led a team of police and TSR personnel to an ambush on April 8 around 7-30 in the night in Kalibari area under the Kathalia gram panchayat. Within a short while OC Partha Nath Bhowmik and his team members saw a black coloured Baleno vehicle (No-TRO1-AS-7809) coming up to pass through the area. The police ream led by OC Partha Nath Bhowmik stopped the vehicle and conducted a search operation in it . In the course of search the police team found 32 kgs of dry ‘Ganja’ (Cannabis) and arrested the driver-owner Rubel Hossain (25), a notorious drug peddler and smuggler of Sonamura subdivision.

Partha Nath Bhowmik said that a case under the NDPS act has been registered against Rubel Hossain and he has been brought on three days police remand from court for intensive interrogation. Rubel Hossain admitted to police interrogators that the consignment of ‘Ganja’ was being carried towards the border for smuggling into Bangladesh.
