Man and woman caught in compromising position , forcibly married by ‘Khap’ Panchayat

In a bizarre incident of a local ‘Khap Panchyat’ forcibly marrying a man and woman , caught in compromising position, has triggered a furore in the entire Teliamura subdivision last night. Giving details sources from Teliamura said that the incident had happened in Kalitilla area of the subdivision .

According to the version of the incident given sources said that a woman of Tusindrai area had been living as tenant in the Kalitilla area with her husband in the residence of Shyamal Sarkar. Even before her husband died a month ago the woman whose name can not be given for legal reasons had been entangled in an illicit relationship with a local youth named Romen Malakar who used to meet her every night.

Scenting something fishy the local people had been waiting to catch the duo red handed and got the opportunity last night. Romen Malakar had entered the widowed woman’s room around around 9-30 in the night but within half an hour a group of local people barged into the lady’s room and found her in compromising condition with her paramour Romen Malakar. The intruders formed a local ‘Khap Panchayat’ and decided to have the couple married . Accordingly , a priest was called and some basic materials were also procured for the marriage which was protested by Romen Malakar’s mother who had appeared on the spot and tried to convince the ‘Khap Panchayat’ that the widowed woman was their relative and there could be no marriage . But she was overruled and the marriage ritual did take place. There has been no intervention from police but the incident has stirred the social grape-vine with juicy yarns.
